Lesson 4 · The Duck's Course

Calling envido

Envido, real envido and falta envido: what each is worth, accepted and declined, and when to call.

The envido ladder

Envido is worth 2, real envido 3 and falta envido whatever is needed to win. You raise in this order: envido, envido again, real envido, falta envido. Accepted, everything adds up and the higher points win. Declined, the last caller takes what had already been accepted, or 1 if nothing had been.

The right moment

Envido can only be called in the first trick, before you play your card, and never after the truco has been accepted. Once you've played your first card, the door is closed for you.

Declined

You called envido, they answered with real envido and you declined. How much do they get?

After the card

You already played your card in the first trick. Can you still open the envido?

Call before you play

You are hand with the 7 and 5 of cups and a 12 of coins. Before playing your first card, call the envido.
